Greenest State of Michigan Facility to Activate Wind Turbine in Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

BAY CITY, MICHIGAN (October 22, 2009) – The Bay City Business Center, recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council as the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold-Certified State of Michigan facility, will be the site of a ribbon-cutting ceremony to introduce its newly constructed wind turbine. The Michigan Department of Environment Quality (DEQ); the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth (DELEG); and ProVisions, LLC will host the ceremony at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 27 at 401 Ketchum Street in Bay City. Free tours allowing the public to view the wind turbine will be offered from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The 120-foot wind turbine is capable of supplying between 30 and 40 percent of the building’s electricity. On days when wind power generates more than 100 percent of the building’s needs, excess energy will be sent out to the utility grid. The Bay City Business Center’s other green features include a pond stormwater retention system, skylights and automated HVAC controls. The initiative exceeds expectations outlined in the Department of State’s Executive Directive 2003-22, “Locating in Urban Areas” and Executive Directive 2007-22, “Enhanced Energy Efficiency and Conservation.”

This ceremony will be the Bay City Business Center’s second of 2009. On Earth Day, April 22, ProVisions officially welcomed the DEQ and DELEG. These state departments are leasing the Bay City Business Center’s 24,996 square feet of office space while six additional acres remain available for sale or build-to-suit with retail, restaurant and banking opportunities. The facility’s proximity to I-75, I-69, I-96 and US-23 give it access to the Tri-Cities, all of Michigan and the Midwest.

The Department of Environmental Quality protects human health and the environment, and preserves Michigan’s natural heritage. For more information, call (800) 292-4706 or go to www.michigan.gov/deq. ProVisions Accepting Proposals for Former FEMA Call Center

LONG BEACH, MISSISSIPPI (September 28, 2009) – The Long Beach Call Center (www.longbeachcallcenter.com) – a 19,044-square-foot “plug-n-play” call center and office complex ProVisions, LLC is offering for sale or lease – presents unusually promising news for a state whose unemployment recently reached 10.5 percent. With state-of-the-art capabilities and strategic location on the Gulf Coast, the Long Beach Call Center has the potential to become a workplace for professionals with a predicted increase in job opportunities. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for customer service representatives is projected to increase by 21 percent or more between 2006 and 2016, especially for those working in call centers. “Employment of customer service representatives may grow at a faster rate in call centers than in other areas,” the BLS’s Web site states.

ProVisions, LLC and its affiliates expect the Long Beach Call Center to combine a purposeful focus on one of Mississippi’s most successful industries with standards of quality, technology and efficiency unrivaled by any other Gulf Coast-based call center. Several companies with Mississippi call centers have already benefited from recent government incentives that encourage a “supportive business climate,” according to the Mississippi Development Authority. BellSouth, SkyTel, Waste Management and Comcast have utilized economically conducive legislation, including the Mississippi Broadband Technology Development Act and the Mississippi Advantage Jobs Incentive Program. Not-for-profit organizations also reinforce the Gulf Coast’s perception as an ideal location for call centers. The National Association of Call Centers, which calls itself “the leading voice for the call center industry,” is based in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. And a New Orleans, Louisiana convention titled “Answering the Call” will be hosted by the American Teleservices Association from Oct. 4-7, providing programs, events and speeches of interest to call center professionals.

The Long Beach Call Center occupies about four acres of land and can accommodate both single and multi-tenant uses. The facility includes 150 existing phone lines, auxiliary back-up power with auto-transfer capability, and heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) designed for high-density occupation. Its parking lot contains more than 200 parking spaces, giving it a ratio of 11 spaces per 1,000 square feet of building area. These attributes allow the Long Beach Call Center to operate 24 hours per day, maximizing its call center potential. Because of its location at 21120 Johnson Road, the facility’s presence within the Long Beach Industrial Park lets it use the region’s well-developed, intermodal transportation system. I-10, U.S. 49 and four accessible ports along Mississippi’s Gulf Coast place the Long Beach Call Center within a day’s drive of three-quarters of the United States’ population. The Long Beach Call Center is a former Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) facility. The United States Homeland Security Department agency leased the call center space between September and December 2008. Before ProVisions purchased the Long Beach Call Center in 2007, it was used as a call center under the ownership of Oreck Corporation’s customer service division.

EQ's Saginaw Bay District Office receives LEED Gold Certification

The Department of Environmental Quality’s Saginaw Bay district office in Bay City has received gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Program, making it the first LEED gold certified government building in Michigan. The Bay City office opened this year and was originally designed to achieve LEED silver certification.

"We are leading by example in demonstrating sound business practices that reduce our impact on the environment while also reducing our costs," said DEQ Director Steven E. Chester. “The DEQ is proud to have the first state office in Michigan to achieve LEED gold level status, and I look forward to seeing this accomplishment replicated throughout state government."

LEED certification is granted to buildings that excel in environmental protection and energy conservation. During the construction of the office, the DEQ ensured that an emphasis was placed on creating a sustainable, energy efficient building. Efforts by the DEQ and the developer, Murray Wikol of ProVisions of Bingham Farms, resulted in a building that is environmentally friendly in terms of site selection, building material, and energy use.

The building was constructed on a brownfield site in Bay City, and while the building has not been in operation long enough to determine its energy efficiency, preliminary data is pointing to a further award as an EPA Energy Star rated building. The DEQ will additionally have a 50-kilowatt wind turbine installed and operational within the coming months to provide a further reduction in electricity costs.
